NASA Data File Details
PEP displays NASA data files. Although looking at the images is great, sometimes it isn't enough. You might want to know some more details about the data. GeoVirgil has two items under the "Imagery" menu item to support this.
The menu item "Loaded Data Files" shows the names of all the files currently loaded. "Displayed Data Files" shows the names of those files current displayed on the screen. Either menu could contain over a dozen items if you have loaded a lot of data. Here, I've only loaded four data files. From either menu item when you select a file, you get a new window with details about the data contain in that file:
Now we can see the latitude and longitude extends covered by this file, the width and height of the image in pixels, the resolution of the image, where it is stored on the local drive, etc.
Notice there are two buttons at the bottom of the panel. If you want to unload this file from memory so it is no longer displayed, simply click the "Unload" button.
If you want more details about this file, click the "More Details" button. For a data file with a Planetary Data System (PDS) header, (which means a file from NASA), PEP will pop up a window that shows the entire header. For example:
Elevation Data
PEP also uses elevation data obtained by the MOLA sensor on the Mars Global Surveyor probe. Just as you can get more information on the imagery data, you can also get more information on the Elevation data. Simply select Elevation-> Show Details and you'll get panels similar to the imagery data panels.
